I've misplaced/lost my PIN and/or Registration Number and can't check my scores online.

In order to check your scores online, you need your Registration Number and PIN, which can be found on the receipt portion of your Test Admission Ticket. If you have misplaced or lost your receipt, you can obtain your PIN and Registration Number by ordering a Score Report. The Score Report will include your Scores, Registration Number and PIN. You can order a score report by:

  1. In Person at the LPI Office (please make sure to bring a valid piece of photo ID).
  2. Online.

A fee of $18 + HST (12%) will be applied for these services.

The LPI Office cannot tell you (or anyone else) your PIN over the phone, by email or by fax.

Are there any courses that assist students in preparing for the LPI?

For UBC students, there are a number of courses offered by the UBC Writing Centre that will help you prepare for the LPI and university writing, specifically Writing 098. The courses focus on grammar and composition and are offered at the UBC campus or online. For more information and other related courses visit the
UBC Writing Centre website or call them at
(604) 822-9564.

For college students, the colleges may offer courses related to preparation for the LPI or for improving English proficiency, and students should inquire at the appropriate department.

How do I get an application form for the LPI?

Click HERE to download an LPI Application Form, or contact the LPI Office by fax at (604) 822-9144, by phone at (604) 822-4145.

How do I find a tutor?

The LPI Office does not offer tutoring services, however students are encouraged to contact their college or university English Department for information. UBC students can contact the UBC Writing Centre at
(604) 822-9564
, or the UBC English Department at (604) 822-5122 for details about tutoring programs available at the UBC campus.

Do I need a private sitting?

No one in the Lower Mainland requires a private sitting. These are only for out-of-town, or out-of-province students. If this applies to you, please see Private Sittings.

What happens if I can't go to a sitting for which I am registered?

If it is 9 or more days before the sitting, you can ask for a Transfer or a Cancellation and partial refund.

If it is less than 9 days before the test sitting there is no refund. (The reason is that most of the costs involved in preparing your place in the sitting are incurred by LPI whether you are at the sitting or not - not to mention that you are taking up the place of someone else that would have been able to write if you had not registered for that sitting.)

Examinees are also not permitted into the test if they arrive more than 30 minutes late (from the scheduled start time). There will be no refund in this case.

In the case of illness, please contact the LPI Office within a week after the scheduled test date.

What is the maximum time allowed to write the LPI test?

The total time allowed is 2 hours and 30 minutes, but students may leave as soon as they have finished writing.
