What to Bring on Test Day

Photo Identification Policy Update
Note: Effective immediately, we no longer accept post-secondary student identification cards as a valid form of identification at test sittings. We now only accept government-issued photo identification. Please see Valid Photo Identification.

1. Test Confirmation Email

Once you have completed the registration and your photo has been approved, you will automatically be sent a test confirmation email. You must bring a digital or printed copy of the email with you to the test sitting.

The test confirmation email will include the following information:

  • Your test registration number.
  • Your name. Check the name on the test confirmation email to make sure that it is spelled exactly the same as on your identification.
  • Test sitting information. Check carefully the address of the testing centre, and the date and time of the test.
  • Identification requirements for admission to the test.

2) contact our office.

2. Passport-Type Photo

All test takers are now required to upload a photo at the time of registration and are no longer required to bring a photo on the day of the test. Click here for more information.

 

 3. Valid Photo Identification

Your photo ID must be government-issued, original, valid, unexpired, and have your full name as you provided it during registration for the LPI Test. If the name that you registered with does not match the name on the photo ID you bring on your test day, you may not be allowed entry into the test.

ACCEPTABLE PHOTO IDENTIFICATION INCLUDES:
  • Passport booklet
  • Canadian permanent resident card
  • British Columbia identification card (with photo)
  • Driver’s license
  • National identification card
  • Provincial identification card

Unacceptable identification includes:

  • Post-secondary school student identification card
  • Any expired document
  • Any photocopied document
  • Passport card
  • Social security card
  • Social insurance card
  • Employee identity card
  • Notary-prepared letter or document
  • Credit card of any type

Note: High school students registered for public sittings who have only transit “Go Cards” as identification must contact the LPI office for information about acceptable supporting identification. If you require a form of valid identification and are a resident of British Columbia, you can learn more here.

4. Pen, pencil and eraser

Please bring a pen, pencil and eraser with you on the day of your test. You will not be allowed to have a pencil case on your desk during the test, so you may choose to keep your pen, pencil, and eraser in a clear plastic bag.

Test Day Procedures

Check-in

  • Arrive at the test centre at least 30 minutes before the scheduled test start time. If you are late, you may not be allowed to take the test, and you will not be eligible to transfer your test or receive a refund.
  • You must bring your original, valid, government-issued photo identification. You will not be allowed to take the test without presenting your identification.
  • It is recommended that you use the washroom before checking in. Once checked in, test takers must be escorted to the washroom one at a time.
  • At check-in, you will be provided with your LPI Reading Comprehension Booklet and LPI Essay Writing Booklet, which must remain unopened until the start of test announcement.
  • You must turn off and store your cellphone before entering the test room. You cannot have your cellphone on your person.
  • Store all notes and study materials in your bag as you will not be allowed to access them once you are in the test room. You are only allowed to have your photo ID, test booklets, pen, pencil, and eraser on your desk.
  • All other belongings are considered prohibited materials and must be stored before entering the test room. If you are found with prohibited materials during the test, Paragon will be notified.
  • Please do not bring valuables on test day. Neither Paragon Testing Enterprises nor the test centre is liable for lost or stolen items.

During the Test

Please note that any incidents that occur during a test sitting will be reported to Paragon Testing Enterprises.

  • If you need anything during the test, such as a washroom break, raise your hand. You may not communicate with other test takers in the test room or leave your seat unescorted.
  • Use only a No. 2 or HB pencil to fill in the circles that indicate your responses for all multiple-choice questions. If you accidentally use a pen, go over them again with a pencil. You are not allowed to use white-out.
  • Summaries in the Reading Comprehension section and the Essay Writing section must be written in pen. However, you may use pencil for any rough drafts.
  • Do not tear pages out of the test booklets or add any in. All work (including rough work) must be completed in the test booklets. For the Essay Writingsection, only responses provided on pages marked FINISHED WORK will be rated.
  • Provide your signature on the front page of both the LPI Reading Comprehension Booklet and the LPI Essay Writing Booklet to agree and adhere to Paragon’s service terms.
  • Fill in the test taker information section on the front page of both the LPI Reading Comprehension Booklet and the LPI Essay Writing Booklet.
  • Cellphones and other prohibited materials are not permitted during the test. Having your cellphone ring during the test may result in your test scores being cancelled.
  • If you need a special accommodation for your test—including accessibility equipment, beverages, or snacks in the test room—you must submit a Special Accommodations Request Form, which can be found on our Request Forms. All special accommodations must be preapproved by Paragon Testing Enterprises.

After the Test

  • When you have finished the test, please raise your hand. The test centre personnel will come to verify your government-issued photo identification and collect both your LPI Reading Comprehension Booklet and LPI Essay Writing Booklet.
  • Remain in your seat with both your LPI Reading Comprehension Booklet and LPI Essay Writing Booklet closed. Opening or writing in either of your test booklets after the end of test announcement may result in your test scores being cancelled. You must put your pens and pencils down.
  • Your test results will be available online within 15 business days of your test.
  • Your scores will be sent to the institutions that you have listed on your score distribution list, if applicable.

Notes:

  • The sequence of test day procedures may vary between test centres.
  • In cases of extreme weather conditions or natural disasters, call the LPI office on Friday before the day of the test sitting to find out if your test sitting has been cancelled.

Test Day Rules

Washroom Breaks

Test takers are encouraged to use the washroom prior to the test, as there will be no extra time allotted for washroom breaks. If you absolutely must use the washroom while the test is in progress, raise your hand to alert test centre personnel, and you will be escorted to the nearest washroom.

Scented Products

Please do not use perfumes, aftershaves, colognes, and other scented products on test day. These products may make other people in the room sick.

Prohibited Behaviour

The following behaviour will not be tolerated and may result in your removal from the test room or cancellation of your test scores by Paragon Testing Enterprises.

  • Removing, or attempting to remove, test materials from the test room
  • Behaving in a disruptive, aggressive, or violent manner
  • Attempting to communicate in any way with another test taker
  • Attempting to take the test for another test taker
  • Using prohibited materials during the test
  • Failing to follow the test day procedures set out by the test centre personnel
  • Consuming food or drinks (other than water)
  • Consuming any form of tobacco, alcohol, or drugs

Prohibited Materials

You will be asked to store all personal belongings under your seat. The only items you may have on your desk are your identification document, a pen, a pencil, an eraser, and your test booklets.

The following items are not allowed on your desk or on your person. If you are found to have any of these items with you during the test, you may be removed from the test room, and your test scores may be cancelled by Paragon Testing Enterprises. If your cellphone rings during the test, this may also result in your test booklet being taken away.

  • Cellphones, mobile devices, or any electronic devices
  • Fitness tracking devices
  • Watches of any kind, including smartwatches
  • Test preparation materials
  • Study notes or paper of any kind
  • Digital or paper dictionaries
  • Calculators
  • Clothing accessories, such as hats, hoods, scarves, gloves, etc., unless worn for religious or medical purposes
  • Dangerous or illegal materials

Note: Any heavy jackets or coats cannot be worn during the test. They must be stored under your seat or in your personal belongings.
